Abstract | The work brought out in this paper is directed towards the issue of controlling integrating processes with dead-time using PID controllers and a Smith predictor with an adjustment made to enable the rejection of load disturbances. Simple tuning rules for P, PI, PD and PID controllers are derived for the aforementioned controller arrangement. The parameters required to be specified in order to get the controller settings are intuitive specifications like damping factor, natural frequency of oscillations or time constant along with the accurate knowledge of process model. The motivation to derive the tuning rules for PID class of controllers is to investigate the selectivity of nature of response (servo or regulatory) for integrating processes with time delay, for the said controller arrangement. Simulations are carried out to corroborate the competency of the proposed set of tuning rules with the controller arrangement stated before. |

It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
