Temporal Coverage | 1891-1895 |
Description | The Evening Dispatch, emerging in January 1891 amid political shifts and economic growth in Provo, Utah, challenged the established Provo paper, the Daily Enquirer, for five years. Despite accusations of bias, the Dispatch competed fiercely, offering semiweekly issues filled with local news and reports from Salt Lake City and abroad. Its Democratic leanings irked the Enquirer, especially as the Dispatch transitioned to daily publication during the 1894 Congressional election. However, facing financial strain after supporting losing candidates, the Dispatch returned to semiweekly editions before ceasing operations in December 1895, with the Enquirer attributing its demise to political entanglements. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1891 of this newspaper. |
