Description | Artemis E. Fay founded the Peach Springs Arizona Champion in 1883, later relocating it to Flagstaff in 1884, where it evolved into the Arizona Daily Sun. After several ownership changes, Clarkson M. Funston renamed it the Coconino Sun in 1891 to coincide with Coconino County's founding. It briefly became the Coconino Weekly Sun before attorney Jerome Edwin Jones merged it with the Flagstaff Democrat in 1896, rebranding it as the Skylight Kicker. Funston repurchased it in 1898, restoring the Coconino Sun masthead. Fred S. Breen took over in 1908 until his death in 1932, chronicling Flagstaff's growth and regional development. NDLI hosts contents from/of year 1891 of this newspaper. |
