Description | The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), University of Kashmir, has developed a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Classical Political Philosophy (Plato to Marx) for undergraduate students pursuing a BA (Honours) in Political Science. This course is part of the Higher Education initiative to enhance access to quality learning through digital platforms. Classical Political Philosophy is a foundational subject in Political Science. It introduces students to a galaxy of great Western philosophers and political thinkers, examining their insights on political life—both in its ideal form and practical application. The course traces the evolution of political thought, beginning with ancient Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle, and moving through early modern thinkers such as Thomas Hobbes, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Stuart Mill. It explores the ideas of idealists like Green and Hegel, and culminates in the revolutionary philosophy of Karl Marx. The course also touches upon lesser-known yet significant thinkers like Marlo Montes and Immanuel Kant. The course is designed with a three-dimensional pedagogical approach: Lucid Introduction to each philosopher and their historical context., Comprehensive Account of their major political ideas and theories. and Critical Assessment of selected ideas at an advanced level for deeper understanding and academic engagement. This course is ideal for students looking to build a solid conceptual foundation in political theory and understand the intellectual legacy that shapes contemporary political thought. |
