Abstract | he project is aimed to develop a large-scale,low-cost building management system interfacing with sensors for monitoring direct (e.g. current, voltage) and indirect (e.g. motion, tempera- ture, humidity) parameters related to energy consumption in a university setting like IIIT,Delhi. Building Management Systems(BMS)is a common utility installed in large buildings with core functionality of monitoring and controlling different environmental dynamics like temperature, light, gases, electrical energy and human presence, within a building. With a basic aim to monitor and control energy usage in a building, Building Management System usually comprises of power systems, HVAC systems and intrusion detection systems. A lot of initiatives are being made to develop and model these BMSs for the purpose of making them more efficient, reliable and affordable. Our work is an attempt in the same direction but with a focus on incurring easily available low-cost sensors like occupancy sensor, temperature sensor, contact sensor, light sensors etc, instead of direct metering or plug-load measurement. The objective at large is to develop a system which can use such sensors to measure and learn the trend of physical parameters inside the building for instance human activities. Based on these observed patterns, the system is intended to make intelligent decisions about actuation of appliances within the building to reduce wastage and consumption of electricity. |
