Description | Single-panel comic strip shows Dilly O' Th' Valley, (guardian of the Valley of the Shmoon) exhibiting his solution to the problems of both war and peace to a dumbfounded group of Republicans (Richard M. Nixon, George Romney, Nelson Rockefeller, Everett Dirksen, Charles Percy, and Ronald Reagan) who are contemplating running for president in 1968. L'il Abner looks on smilingly. Dilly plans to run for president, and in later strips it is revealed that his solution to all problems relies on the Shmoos, lovable creatures who supply all the world's wants. Al Capp first introduced the Shmoos in 1948. Their unlimited supply of unselfishness ultimately destroyed society, and they had to be confined to the Valley of the Shmoon. |
