Description | Eight-panel comic strip shows Jeff painting his name on the second-hand taxi he has just bought, which is to be the first in a fleet of cabs. He gives Mutt a ride, but collides with a train, destroying the front half of his cab. Undaunted, he reappears driving a horse which has been harnessed to the remaining back end of the cab. The cab is now called "Jeff's Hansom Cab Service." Mutt and Jeff was begun in 1907 by Bud Fisher, who was the first to copyright his own strips. After 1931, the strip was actually drawn by Al Smith, who only began signing his own name after Fisher died in 1954. |
