Description | Trade cards and ephemera from approximatey 1850 to about 1910. The majority of the cards are collectible trade cards or premium cards from sets, many with brand names and product information. Includes printed and inscribed receipts for tobacco products; a pamphlet with essay on "Tobacco and its effect upon the health and character of those who use it"; cartoons, almanacs, portrait cards, tobacco textile premium inserts of flags, butterflies, birds, fruits, and flowers; advertising trade cards for such products as alarm clocks, cotton thread on spools, glassware, hair tonics, oils, mince meat, plum pudding, and other food products, such as cocoa and chocolate, coffee and tea, as well as bitters and syrups, sewing machines, soaps, umbrellas, wallpapers, and wringers available through weekly installment payments. Also includes a number of "album" cards "of our series" advertising "Dr. Jayne's" patent medicines; irregular shaped die cut toys as well as Christmas decorations showing Santa Claus; trade cards with stock nautical, winter, and other scenes from nature with space for text advertising a particular product or service; many Christmas cards of various sizes, including postcards. |
