Description | Photographs by various photographers depicting Istanbul, Turkey; Egypt, and Tunisia. The sites depicted in Egypt are archaeological ruins (the Island of Philae, Karnak, Thebes, Kalābishah, Dendara, and Abū Sunbul) except for images of the city of Alexandria, a bazaar in Cairo and a shop. Istanbul sites include mosques (the Sultanahmet, the Zeyrek mosque, and Ayasofya), the tomb of Sultan Mahmud II and Sultan Abdülaziz, the Galata tower, Byzantine walls and ruins, street scenes, and palaces and horses of Sultan Abdülhamid II. Most of images of Tunisia depict mosques and mahdrasahs in Qayrawān and Madanīn. Several pictures depict Tunisian villages with ghorfa structures or cave dwellings. Includes portraits of people including a carpenter in Nazareth, Turkish women, Circassian soldiers, a Kurdish leader, and Bedouin men and women. |
