Description | Cartoon shows former President Coolidge sitting before a typewriter holding a picture of a small boat named "Economy." The picture is titled "President Hoover's Motor Boat." Behind him is a large picture of a huge ship named "Mayflower." The picture is titled "President Coolidge's Yacht." Coolidge muses, "Now why didn't I think of that." Coolidge was known for his frugality, but as president, he enjoyed using the presidential yacht. One of the first acts of Herbert Hoover, his successor, however, was to give up the yacht as an economy measure. The yacht burned in 1931. |
