Description | Cartoon shows lobbyist Tommy Corcoran hiding under his desk, holding a mousetrap from which a mouse has escaped, saying, "There must be something to that old mousetrap saying. If I didn't hide away they'd wear out the path to my door." Meanwhile he is besieged by people trying to crowd through the windows and over the transom, calling out, "Money no object with me," "I'll throw in a little stock for good measure," "$5000.00 fee!" "Any price you ask is O.K. with me," and "$5000.00 is little enough." In the fall of 1941, the enormously successful Corcoran was investigated by a Senate committee on suspicion of illegal "influence-peddling." No charges were ever proved. |
