Description | Cartoon shows Fritz Kuhn, head of the pro-Nazi German-American Bund, as a prisoner, welcoming fellow prisoner Communist Party general secretary Earl Browder to his jail cell. Kuhn had been convicted of theft and falsification of records in the fall of 1939 and Browder of using a fraudulent United States passport a few weeks later. Both were sentenced to several years in prison. In August 1939, Hitler and Stalin had shocked the world by signing a defensive treaty, thereby bringing their previously hostile Nazi and Communist supporters into temporary alliance. |
