Description | World War II cartoon shows a court proceeding with Hitler serving as the prosecutor, the judge of the Court of Honor and the judge of the People's Court. On July 20, 1944, Hitler survived an assassination attempt by disaffected officers of the German Army. Hitler took terrible retribution, executing thousands of officers or sending them and their families to concentration camps. On August 4, he announced the establishment of a Court of Honor to investigate all field marshals and generals and indicated that any accused would be tried by the People's Court which was run by the Gestapo. |
