Description	Vidyapati was a Maithili and Sanskrit poet-saint, composer, writer, courtier and royal priest. He was a devotee of Shiva, but also wrote love songs and devotional Vaishnava songs. He knew Sanskrit, Prakrit, Apabhramsha, and Maithili. influence was not just restricted to Maithili and Sanskrit literature but also extended to other Eastern Indian literary traditions. The language at the time of Vidyapati, the Prakrit-derived late Abahattha, had just begun to transition into early versions of the Eastern languages such as Maithili and Bhojpuri. Thus, Vidyapati's influence on making these languages has been described as "analogous to that of Dante in Italy and Chaucer in England". He has been called the "Father of Bengali literature". विद्यापति एक मैथिली और संस्कृत कवि-संत, संगीतकार, लेखक, दरबारी और शाही पुजारी थे। वह शिव के भक्त थे, लेकिन उन्होंने प्रेम गीत और भक्ति वैष्णव गीत भी लिखे। वे संस्कृत, प्राकृत, अपभ्रंश और मैथिली जानते थे। प्रभाव केवल मैथिली और संस्कृत साहित्य तक ही सीमित नहीं था बल्कि अन्य पूर्वी भारतीय साहित्यिक परंपराओं तक भी विस्तारित था। विद्यापति के समय की भाषा, प्राकृत-व्युत्पन्न स्वर्गीय अबहत्था, मैथिली और भोजपुरी जैसी पूर्वी भाषाओं के शुरुआती संस्करणों में परिवर्तित होना शुरू हो गई थी। इस प्रकार, इन भाषाओं को बनाने पर विद्यापति के प्रभाव को "इटली में दांते और इंग्लैंड में चौसर के समान" के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है। उन्हें "बंगाली साहित्य का जनक" कहा जाता है।
