Description | Samay team launched Newsfront from Kathmandu in 2007. Media’s leading and vibrant role during the successful movement for democracy in Nepal has barely any parallel. Samay magazine deserves special appreciation as it took the lead in defying the censorship imposed by the Royal regime says former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The needs of New Nepal were two—to make the partisan culture a reality and to make the atmosphere of free thinking strong. In Nepal there was a growing need for promoting the culture of free thinking which conversely makes the partisan culture itself very strong. The growth of free media could create an atmosphere for free thinking. The great experiments of the revolutionaries to come to parliament and of those parliamentary parties to sit in dialogue with the guerrillas and bring them to sit across the aisles in the parliament was a great achievement. For that reason, the world became interested in Nepali politics. Moreover, a large English reading public has emerged in Nepal. So an English weekly that caters to the needs of all groups of people, and that makes the cultivation of a culture of free thinking its main principle is a great need now. Thus Newsfront played a leading role in bilding opinion throughout Nepal and its emergence was glorious with support from every sphere of the country. |
