| Description | In this video, teenage students will be introduced to "Girl Parts" by John M. Cusick. David and Charlie couldn't be more different. David is wealthy and popular. Charlie is a nobody—a charity case at the all-boys' private school where he and David are both students. But when David's therapist diagnoses him as "disassociated" and prescribes a cutting-edge technology as treatment, the boys' lives begin to intersect in strange and meaningful ways. The action revolves around Rose, the Companion (read: life-like robot) who's supposed to solve all David's problems. Unfortunately for David, Rose is without the "girl parts" he feels are necessary to really connect, and a break-up, then a suicide attempt, then a surprise connection between Rose and Charlie follow. Girl Parts may be set in a future when technology seems to hold all the answers, but as it turns out, this book's "future" looks surprisingly like the present. This book does deal with mature content. This is a great resource for motivating upper grade readers. |
