Abstract	In this study, a new magnetic iron oxide-dichromate hybrid nanomaterial is introduced. The magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized by co-precipitation manner. Then, tetraethyl orthosilicate as a source of silica has been applied for creation of core–shell nanoparticles iron oxide-silica. Iron oxide-silica was functionalized using (3-chloropropyl)trimethoxysilane and triethylamine. The cationic part was organized for immobilization of anionic part of the Cr(VI) catalysts with dichromate to give [Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$/SiO$_{2}$/N(C$_{2}$H$_{5}$)$_{3}$]$_{2}$Cr$_{2}$O$_{7}$. The structure of the catalyst after immobilization was specified using elemental analysis, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared and solid state UV–Vis. The particle size and morphology were recognized by scanning electron microscope and XRD. Superparamagnetic behavior of nanoparticles was corroborated by vibrating sample magnetometer.
