| Abstract | With the advancement in mobile technology, there are lots of prospect for the health domain. Specifically, the accessibility of the electronic health record (EHR) can be extended to the mobile node to promote remote healthcare delivery; this is known as mobile Health or mHealth. However, supporting real-time access and services synchronization in highly distributed mobile environments can be challenging due to the fact that mobile devices rely on wireless communication mediums to exchange data. These mediums can be unstable due to bandwidth fluctuations and the mobility of the healthcare professionals. In this work, we examine how to provide real-time accessibility of the medical record in the mobile environment by overcoming the network-level limitations. Thus, we propose distributed cloud-hosted middleware platform that enables the mobile devices to receive updates. Since the middleware are distributed, a methodology called the “best-proximity” accessibility is enforced so that the healthcare professionals are able to connect to the middleware that offers the most optimal request–response time. The evaluation of the framework, called Med App, shows that: (1) medical data dissemination and accessibility can be achieved in a low-latency fashion, (2) data state can be managed efficiently through a policy-based consistency model, and (3) the resources of the mobile device can be efficiently utilized through services composition on the middleware. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDLI provides user group-specific services such as Examination Preparatory for School and College students and job aspirants. Services for Researchers and general learners are also provided. NDLI is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for 10 most widely used Indian languages. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular forms of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is designed to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
