| Abstract | Tar derived from municipal solid waste (MSW) will block and foul process equipment. To better understand its formation mechanism during the pyrolysis process, key MSW components including polyethylene (PE), paper pulp, and bamboo (chopsticks) were selected and analytical pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry investigations were performed to examine their tar formation characteristics. Increasing the heating rate had no impact on the composition of pyrolysis product from bamboo, paper pulp, and PE pyrolysis, excluding the naphthalene generated from bamboo. Its content rose as the heating rate increased. Increasing the final temperature could reduce the total yield of tar. However, some compounds derived from bamboo, such as naphthalene, would increase as the final temperature rose. The tar chemical composition from paper pulp pyrolysis would get changed and the contents of some compounds, such as styrene and naphthalene, from PE pyrolysis would rise as the final temperature ascended. This work described here favors us control the tar production in the MSW pyrolysis process. |

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources which is not just a repository with search/browse facilities but provides a host of services for the learner community. It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, through its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). It is developed, operated and maintained from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.
