| Abstract | Thèse de doctorat : Gueddouda M.K Abstract The present work concerns a valorisation study of local materials in order to use them as an engineered barrier in the bottom and sides of hazardous wastes repository (ISD). The basic materials are dune sand and bentonite from Laghouat and Maghnia regions respectively. A design study based on the criterion of permeability enable us to choose an optimal mixture composed of 85% sand and 15% bentonite. We then conduct a full characterization of mechanical and hydraulic behaviour of the mixture using compacted samples under saturated and unsaturated conditions. The hydraulic behaviour is investigated through measurement of hydraulic conductivity and suction assessments on drainage and wetting paths which can be considered as a solicitation under zero confining stress. The mechanical behaviour is characterised, in particular for triaxial tests on saturated compacted material under different conditions of drainage and triaxial tests at constant water content on unsaturated compacted samples. The complete characterization of the mixture adopted, on the basis of physical, hydraulic and mechanical parameters, shows that the material meets the requirements of the regulations for use in the construction of ISD. It should also obviously leads to a modelisation of the engineered barrier in order to validate the performance of these local materials in environmental applications. |
