| Abstract | This paper attempts to answer two of the most disturbing questions now arising about the climatic evolution in southwestern Spain: Are rainfall amounts decreasing in this area in recent decades? And Is this evolution linked to rainfall cycles or do clear trends exist? Rainfall data of the last 50 years belongs to climate stations representative of 8 farms with silvopastoral land use, located in the Spanish region of Extremadura, were analyzed. The results showed a signifi cant decreasing trend in rainfall. Some indications about a possible relationship between this reduction in the total amount of rainfall, particularly in the winter months, and an increasing trend in the value of dynamic variables such as the NAO index were also evidenced. |
