| Abstract | The theory of acculturation has been used in the multidisciplinary field of interculturalism for the study of socio-educational phenomenon related to migration. However, increasingly, educational researchers, notably Afro-Canadians, propose theoretical frameworks inspired by critical anti-racist theory to frame the context within which the schooling experience of Afro-Canadian youth takes place. Their perspective leads to challenging the concept of acculturation, and to adopting instead that of racialization. This article offers a theoretical reflection on the change from acculturation to racialization within the critical antiracist theory (CART) revisited by Dei. The issues, scope and limitations of this critical anti-racist theory are discussed in order to understand the schooling experience of Montreal Afro-Canadian youth.
