| Abstract | If we look closely at the different stages of Jean Echenoz’s work, we will find that they correspond to the most important transformations undergone by the French novel since the eighties. He published his first novel in 1979, when the literary press proclaimed the death of the novel. The formal aspects of the novel played a central role in his work then In a second stage (after Un An, 1997), this author achieves a balance between his rethinking of the formal aspects of the novel and more elaborate plots. It’s then that literary critics and readers alike start noticing the quality of his work. In a third stage of his work (since Ravel (2006) Echenoz shares the tendency of the French novel nowadays to deal with biography issues. He is now considered one of the most famous French contemporary authors and the French novel is said to be alive again. Keywords: Jean Echenoz, contemporary French novel, reception |
