| Abstract | The demand for citizens to become technologically competent is great in an ever-changing world. As educators, it is imperative that we recognise the potential of different tools and explore ways to use them to enhance the learning experience. This paper will look specifically at one form of technology – video conferencing. The advantages and challenges of integrating it into classroom practices will be discussed. Further, we will suggest some practical strategies drawn upon literature review and the results of a recent study funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, where this tool was used to encourage students in both urban and rural regions to learn mathematic and science.
