| Abstract | FR La litterature sur le paradoxe de la genericite est abondante. Le phenomene est generalement ramene a la difference d’acceptabilite des articles generiques avec les differents types de predicats. Le constat est le suivant : certains predicats admettent indifferemment les trois articles generiques le, les et un, comme les predicats distributifs ; d’autres par contre, en excluent l’une ou l’autre forme, comme les predicats d’espece qui ne se combinent pas avec un. La situation se complique davantage avec les predicats evenementiels : en effet, tout en refusant le generique un, ces predicats sont, selon l’evenement rapporte, ou tout a fait compatibles avec l’un et l’autre article (i.e. le et les), ou compatibles avec une forme a l’exclusion de l’autre. On se limite ici a examiner deux cas du paradoxe de la genericite : le cas des enonces evenementiels et le cas des enonces deontiques. Dans le premier cas, on essaiera de montrer que la difference d’acceptabilite des articles generiques ressortit, dans une perspective cognitive, aux connaissances encyclopediques qu’on a sur l’etat du monde decrit. Dans le second cas, on tentera de mettre en relation les articles generiques et le potentiel illocutionnaire des enonces deontiques. Chemin faisant, on conclura que la contrainte de compatibilite des generiques avec les enonces deontiques est fonction du degre d’explicitation de la force illocutionnaire impliquee. The phenomenon is usually reduced to the difference of generic articles acceptability with the predicates. The problematic is as follows: some predicates admit the three generic articles Un, Le and Les, such as distributive predicates; others, on the contrary, exclude one or the other form, such as species predicates which aren’t consistent with the indefinite article Un. The situation is further complicated with event predicates: indeed, these predicates combine only with the definite articles Le and Les. Yet, according to the reported event, they are either compatible with both definite articles or only with one form but not with the other. We limit ourselves here to two cases of the genericity paradox: The case of event sentences and the case of deontic judgments. Firstly, we will try to show that the difference of generic articles acceptability relies, in a cognitive perspective, on the encyclopedic knowledge we have on the state of the world described. Secondly, we will attempt to relate the generic articles to the illocutionary potential of deontic judgments. Thus, it will be concluded that the (in)compatibility of generic articles with deontic judgments is function of the degree of sentences illocutionary force explicitness.
