| Abstract | GUNAWAN TRISANDI PASARIBU. The Wood Extractives of Raru and It’s Influences on Reducing Blood Sugar Level by In Vitro Testing. Under direction of WASRIN SYAFII and LATIFAH K. DARUSMAN Raru stem barks are widely used as additional materials of nira (sugar palm) in order to make them more durable and to enrich the taste of toddy traditional beverages such as tuak (Batak’s beverages). The traditional knowledge from Sumatra reported that raru could reduce the blood sugar level. The aim of this research is to acquire the effectiveness of raru stem bark extractives on reducing blood sugar level by evaluated the inhibition of alpha glucosidase activity. Then isolated and identified compounds of raru stem bark’s extract which has antidiabetic properties by in vitro testing. There are four species of raru founded from exploration in five locations in Sumatra i.e. Cotylelobium melanoxylon Pierre, Shorea balanocarpoides Sym, Cotylelobium lanceolatum Craib, and Vatica perakensis King. All of the raru species contained flavonoid, saponin and tannin, and the crude extract obtained from reflux and maceration method has been able to inhibited alpha glucosidase 88 to 97%. From the screening step, Shorea crude extract had the best performance, equivalent with the inhibition activity of patented drug -Glucobay97%. The maximum spectrum of bioactive component gained from UV-Vis spectroscopy of Shorea was 288.6 nm. Infra red spectrum could identified the aromatic functional group were -OH, C-H, C=C, CO and C-H. GCMS spectroscopy showed the molecule weight was 390, and the molecule formula was C20H22O8. Based on those spectroscopy data and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analysis, the plausible compound was 4-Glucosyl-3, 4’, 5trihydroxystilbene. |
