| Abstract | The climatic changes which occurred during the Late Glacial and at the beginning ofthe Post Glacial considerably modified the natural environment of prehistoric populations. For certain authors, these modifications were at the origin of a massive integration ofsmall animais in the diet. In the French Pyrenees and on their borders, broadening diets occur at the end of the Older Dryas. Archaeozoological data coupled with palaeoenviron mental data show that the warmer climate and environmental modifications were not directly responsible for the changes observed in the exploitation of animais. Because of the multiplicity of the triggering factors and their probable interaction, it is however difftcult, in the current state ofresearch, to apprehend the causes which led the Late Glacial populations to integrate small game in their economy and their symbolic system. |
