| Abstract | In the automotive industry the innovation has been taking the same pattern through the use of new technologies, thus adding value and garnering customer satisfaction. The strategic management of innovation starts with data gathering, analysis and the implementation of strategic management. In dealing with innovation, companies will present their technological strategies according to their history, technical and scientific expertise, among other resources. This paper aims at describing how the strategic management of innovation has been applied in the Brazilian automotive industry, more specifically in a company operating in the materials engineering, engine and transmission sectors. In order to write this paper we first conducted an exploratory bibliographical research, then carried out a qualitatively-oriented field research by adopting a case-study methodology. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire designed so as to allow the convergence of theoretical issues and the empirical data gathered. Analysis lead to the conclusion that the focus on company management allows more freedom in creative processes, which contributes to individual and regional competencies, leading to innovative products and the continuous improvement of existing processes. |
