This dissertation presents a study involving the addition of hydrated lime to soils in the region of Curitiba in order to improve its use as sub-base asphalt pavements. The study included studies of reactions between soil and lime, whose product is known as soil-lime. The stabilization of the soil was the focus, where the replacement of part of the materials used as sub-base for slaked lime is beneficial for both the cost and to the compressive strength of this subfloor. Overall, the soil-lime mixtures studied exhibit appropriate behavior for use in sub-base layers of pavement, creating the opportunity for its use in regions lacking aggregates or financial resources.This work demonstrated the positive effect of slaked lime to the soil in the requirement of increasing the resistance of the soil. Based on the results of laboratory tests demonstrated the increased resistance to normal stress and shear stress of the soil after the addition of hydrated lime, particularly in the mixture in which 10% of the mass was 90% of hydrated lime and soil was pure. |
