| Abstract | This study examines factors that engage highly diverse middle school students in the utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) for collaboration through a global networked learning environment, APEC Cyber Academy. Thirty-eight middle school students went through a nine-week project-based learning program that aimed at improving ICT skills and promoting international peer learning. Students have demonstrated significant improvement in ICT skills and knowledge about their international counterparts. The findings suggest that the needs for social interaction and relevance in topics are the main motivation factors for the learners to utilize ICT for learning. |
