| Abstract | In 2019 in the city of Chihuahua, a solar distillation system was implemented for the desalination of groundwater with high arsenic content. This in order to obtain an effluent in compliance with Mexican regulations for drinking water. The methodology consisted of two stages: in the first, water was distilled from the city of Chihuahua, until the parameters measured in situ for the samples that are electrical conductivity (CE) and total dissolved solids (TDS), had a minimum daily variation. In the second stage, we continued with the selection of three wells with a high content of arsenic (As) and fluorine (F) located in the municipality of Julimes, Chihuahua; subsequently, water was distilled from these three wells. The samples obtained in the second stage of the project were analyzed for different parameters, including CE, SDT, As and F. It was shown that the solar distillation equipment improves the groundwater quality, presenting a percentage of arsenic removal of more than 99%, of fluorine more than 96% and total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity were reduced by more than 98%. |
