| Abstract | In 2018, this research was carried out whose main objective was to verify the effectiveness of chitosan hydrogels (net-CS y net-CS-g-NVCL/DAAm) in arsenic (As) and fluoride (F) removal found present in the groundwater for human consumption of the city of Chihuahua, in addition to updating the hydrogeochemical information by quantifying the concentration of these pollutants in a series of wells distributed throughout the city. The chitosan hydrogels (net-CS and net-CS-g-NVCL / DAAm) synthesized in this investigation were used as adsorbents in the different batches formed for the adsorption tests. Kinetics and adsorption isotherms were evaluated for As and F. The hydrogel that showed the greatest efficiency in contaminant removal was the hydrogel modified (net-CS-g-NVCL / DAAm), obtaining 46 and 14 percent removal of arsenic and fluorides, while the normal hydrogel (net-CS) presented a percentage of removal of arsenic and fluorides of 40 and 1 percent, respectively. The adsorption capacity of the modified hydrogel for As and F was 0.022 and 0.150 mg / g, respectively reached after 50 h, while for the normal hydrogel (net-CS) the adsorption capacity for As and F chitosan hydrogels (net-CS) and (net-Cs) -g- (NVCL / DAAm) synthesized with a source of gamma radiation, whereas fluorine alone was successfully adsorbed on the modified chitosan hydrogel ((net-Cs) -g- (NVCL / DAAm)).was 0.0014 and 0.0566 mg / g. Aqueous arsenic species present in the groundwater of the city of Chihuahua were successfully adsorbed on the chitosan hydrogels (net-CS) and (net-Cs) -g- (NVCL / DAAm) synthesized with a source of gamma radiation, whereas fluorine alone was successfully adsorbed on the modified chitosan hydrogel ((net-Cs) -g- (NVCL / DAAm)). |
