| Abstract | The management cf d namic tasks require a quite precise contrai by the musculcskclctal syst.em. More precisely, the simultaneous action of the agonists and antagonists muscles (co contraction) allows joint stiffness anci provides reduction in joint laxity (articular stabiiity). However, when musculoskeletal system is nodified, such as below-knee amputation, adapta tions of muscular patterns are observed. These adaptations irivolve prernature development cf osteoarthritis at both knees and inchsposed the below-knee arnputee subjects. The ob jectives of this thesis were to modified a mathematical model for the estimation of agonist and antagonist moments, to compare the management cf the muscular moment cf the non amputated and amputated legs and finaliy, to compare the production cf cocontractions cf ahle-bodied and below-knee amputee chiidren duming dynamic tasks cf the lower limbs. Two groups cf subjects were evaiuated (1able-bodied chuidren not having any musculoskelet.ai prohiem; 2below-knee amputee chiidren having this handicap for only limitation) cluring two different tasks (1stepping in place; 2walking). The results showed that the below-knee amputee children modified their muscular patterns in order to carry eut the dynarnic tasks in a sirnilar way regarcling angular kinernatics. These modifications involve a reduction in die production of cocontractions during ciefined tirnes cf the ciynainic tasks. This reduction could create an iricrease in articiilar laxity and thiis produce undesirable coristraints on the osteoarticuiar system. |
