| Abstract | This paper deals with the design of an ambulatory system for monitoring unexplained syncopes and sleep troubles. Our aim is to study the optimal spatial location of new sensors and the extraction of the signals needed for diagnosis from real sleep recordings. From a signal processing viewpoint, such signal-extraction problem corresponds to a demixing problem. Two approaches are presented in this paper: orthonormal wavelet decomposition and neural networks nonlinear filtering. The two methods yield acceptable results and with a similar performance; both approaches perform better than traditional filtering. The neural network allows extracting the nonlinear transfer function between two EEG channels, but its implementation is difficult. On the other hand, the wavelet-based method allows to easily extract two signals from a single derivation. |
