| Abstract | The following paper contains the study of an Egyptian deity, in this case the frog goddess Heket, through archaeological and literary sources. This deity has hardly been treated in detail with specific studies, as is the case with many other Egyptian gods, being devoid of any individual study. This is an issue that significantly affects our knowledge of the pantheon of Pharaonic Egypt, usually full of studies and reviews about higher and best known deities. The frog goddess’ worship can be found throughout Egyptian history, from predynastic times to the Coptic period. Heket appears present in the different areas of the Egyptian’s life and death, guaranteeing protection, promoting fertility, helping the deceased during the transition to his new life... Her role being much more complex than the simple one of a midwife goddess as it is commonly recognized.
