| Abstract | Non-linear dynamics due to friction induced vibrations in aircraft braking systems are investigated. A complete non-linear model is presented for the analysis of mode-coupling instabilities by considering experimental observations. The non-linear contact between the rotors and the stators is considered. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of damping on the non-linear dynamical – transient and stationary behaviour of the braking system in the neighbourhood of a critical steady-state equilibrium point. The results will be used to express some precautions to take into account when including damping in aircraft braking systems in order to reduce vibratory risks.
