| Abstract | As a french contribution to the international TOGA program, the COARE 156-2 croise was carried out by the ORSTOM-SURTROPAC group in Noumea, New Caledonia, along with the participation of the PMEL-NOAA (Seattle). The croise was carried out, on board the RN LE NOROIT from the french oceanographie fleet, starting february the 21st to march the 18th 1992, between New-Caledonia and Bougainville Strait and betwen 6 S and 10 N along the l56°E meridian. During the croise, the following operations have been made: 75 cr002 casts (0-1000 m) with Rosette samples, 86 XBT launches, continuous measurements of absolute currents (0-400 m) with an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler, automatic sea-surface temperature and salinity measurements every 5 minutes, standard meteorological observations every three hours, together with mooring recoveries and deployments. The present report describes the croise operations, the equipments and methods used. Preliminary data and graphs are also reported. |
