| Abstract | Introduction: Acute appendicitis is the leading cause of emergency surgery in the pediatric population. Laparoscopic appendectomy helps reduce morbidity and mortality of this disease. Today it has accepted the use of laparoscopy in complicated appendicitis. Objective: To determine the clinical outcome of patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery for complicated appendicitis. Material and methods: We reviewed the records of patients diagnosed with appendicitis who were treated by minimally invasive surgery. Results: 41 laparoscopic appendectomies were performed in patients with complicated appendicitis. 61% was performed in patients aged six to 10 years. Localized peritonitis was found in 56%. Abdominal abscess in presented as a complication in 12%. Conclusions: Our results are similar to those reported in other series. |
