| Abstract | We present data on ocelot ecology in the area of Darien, through cameras traps. We obtained information on density, circadian activity and minimum home ranges. The population of ocelots in Cana has one of the highest densities recorded throughout its range, with a preference for nocturnal activity and homes ranges to small and Tecnociencia, Vol. 11, N°1 91 Moreno, R. y Bustamante, A. 92 medium size, depending on the method, with the minimum convex polygon (PMC) used areas between 0.33-1.57 km and a second method using buffer areas of the cameras are about 12 km. The cameras traps appear to be a good method to obtain ecological data of species, but as any method have advantages and disadvantages. It should be kept in mind that the densities will depend much on effort (covered area) and intensity (# camera traps stations) of sampling. |
