| Abstract | The Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) domain is concerned with a wide variety of network administration tasks, which i nclude: (i) brokering the generation and composition of multimedia telematic ser vic s, (ii) orchestrating and monitoring traffic flow from source nodes to a destinat ion node, and (iii) managing network resources in a robust and efficient manner. Th introduction of multiple intelligent agents distributed throughout the op n TMN environment ensure that the orderly production, transport and integratio n of vast volumes of heterogeneous data through the telecommunications network is ach eved. The paper presents a theoretical discussion on the mechanics of an age nt-ori nted technology, called Cooperating Knowledge Based Systems (CKBS), to enc urage reliable cooperation using agent-based transactions. We then a pply this technology to TMN and thus develop a practical architecture that addres ses two issues: 1. A cooperation framework which supports agent interactio ns within a dynamic CKBS environment. 2. A model of service brokerage in TMN that focuses upon knowl edge structures and execution strategies. The paper, which describes ongoing research into using agen ts to support robust distributed operations in telecommunications, terminate s with an algorithm for rescheduling assembly tasks after a network breakage. Topic Areas Covered: Intelligent Agents and Network Management (TMN). Cooperating Agents for Service Architectures. Presented at the International UNICOM Seminar on Intelligent Agents in Com munications, April 28th 1998, London UK. |
