| Abstract | Objective: To identify the perception that nursing professionals have on occupational hazards in a hospital environment. Method: A descriptive study, qualitative approach undertaken with 22 nurses. The instrument for data collection was a semi-structured interview script for obtaining subjective data related to the work experience activities, and on the knowledge about the occupational hazards of the interviewees. Results / Discussion: Through content analysis of four discourses emerged related to perceived occupational risk categories: exposure to pathogenic microorganisms; Exposure to psychosocial risk; Poor quality of materials and improvisation of them due to lack of suitable material; Use of personal protective equipment and safety regulations. Conclusion: The nurses perceive the risks of a hospital setting, but the knowledge and recognition of these risks are not sufficient to inhibit unsafe conduct during service and professional practice. |
