| Abstract | The objective of this work is to establish a correlation between audiometric data and transients otoacustic emissions (OAEsT) in auditory damage induced by noise (ADIN). Diagnosis of ADIN was performed through standard tonal high-frequency audiometry and OAEsT. For standard high-frequency audiometry we took the average response in dB per frequency and per ear. Regarding OAEsT, the reproducibility of the response was averaged for each frequency. The most important findings were in relation with the decrease of reproducibility from 3 000 Hz onwards in otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), this finding correlates with decrease of the dB response in the standard audiometry in subjects with ADIN, and also in patients with normal hearing. From our findings we conclude that OAEsT is a useful method for the diagnosis of cochlear damage before it can be detected through audiometric tests. |
