| Abstract | In this paper, we intend to tackle the issue of the definition in the so-called "encoding bilingual dictionaries" or "active bilingual dictionaries". We focus more specifically on French-Arabic dictionaries. Our main objective is to demonstrate the interest of definition, precisely the one based on the principles of the Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology, for both the lexicographer and the user of the active bilingual dictionary. This kind of definition allows us to identify the internal structure of lexical meaning, to select the best equivalent and to make explicit the relations of polysemy and equivalence between the two languages. |
