| Abstract | Ecotourism is an activity considered by most stakeholders as a means to achieve conservation and valorisation of biodiversity, local development and development of the tourist sector. In this regard, this activity appears to be symbolic of what is called sustainable development, combining economic, ecological and social dimensions. The objective of this article is to confirm the presumed virtues of ecotourism, based on a study conducted in the southwest of Madagascar. The adopted approach is inspired by the Wunder’s model, which stresses on two assumptions: revenue generation for local populations and induced economic and institutional changes. The results of our study highlight the gap between the virtuous model and the ecotourism activities observed in the southwest of Madagascar. |
