| Abstract | Tourism has become one of the main worldwide economic activities. For many countries and cities, the possibility of attracting visitors constitutes a fundamental resource for local development. Natural and cultural heritage make up the primary resource for tourism; since it is a non renewable resource, it becomes necessary to define and implement plans that rule the way the activity will be developed. Every tourism destination requires an adequate plan which should include environmental, social and economic aspects to ensure a long term sustainable development with equal benefits for local population. This article focuses on the relationship between natural and cultural heritage and tourism, explores the impact that tourism may cause on heritage and provides some information related to sustainable plans in tourism |
