| Abstract | We offer a re-interpretation of La Douleur through the prism of the aching body. We shall try and show how substance and form come together to poignantly express a true reality: that of a body which, having reached its outmost limits, fights an unknowing battle to survive, caringly and still very objectively watched over by those who love it. Marguerite Duras makes use of a good deal of stylistic skills to accomplish total rawness, even brutality of description. It's through style that she reaches depth of meaning in order to deliver it to the reader's conscience. Our analysis will be based upon philosophical (Merleau-Ponty) and narratological notions. We shall also analyse the dynamical nature of re-writing, so dear to Marguerite Duras, of the different excerpts of La Douleur we plan to |
