| Abstract | Hydroxyapatite (Hap) is a bioceramic material widely employed in bone and dental implants due to its characteristics of biocompatibility, re-absorption and metal protection properties. However, the Hap film presents poor adhesion characteristic and the present work shows the improvement of this property as well as the increase of film homogeneity. To this aim, the experiments carried out were based on Hap films deposited onto Ti. The deposits were made with pulsed laser deposition techniques and ionic implantation with Kr, a constant dose of 10 cm and energies around 2.4 MeV. X-ray diffraction, Rutherford-Backscattering spectroscopy (RBS), nanoindentation tests and nanoscratch tests were employed to characterize the films before and after the ionic implantation. The mechanical properties, such as Young’s modulus and hardness, were assessed by nanoindentation with 5 μm spherical tip. A variation of the mechanical properties was observed with a trend to increase after the ionic implantation due to a better film homogeneity, while an increase of adhesiveness of the Hap film on titanium alloy was observed. |
