| Abstract | As known HIV/AIDS is one of the global health problems, which it’s spreading is very wide and fast due to the ineffective treatment, mode of transmission, and low knowledge level on HIV/AIDS. There are several high risk groups to HIV/AIDS, which are commercial sex worker and its client, drug user, long distance driver, free sex behavior and adolescent in reproductive age. Student is the one of this high risk group due to their active sexual behavior. To manage this problem, many health strategies have been applied but the spreading of HIV/AIDS is still high. Health Education is a method which needed to educate people to prevent spreading many contagious diseases. One of the effective health education methods is Peer Education Method. Peer education method is a method which is used to manage many health problems that play role to develop and increase knowledge, attitude and practice of the certain group by using their peer group to convey the health messages and this strategy is facilitated by a facilitator from their peer group who has good skill and knowledge on it. The design of this study is non randomized control group design with pretest and posttest. The total sample is 110 students of North Sumatra University. The result of the study showed that the role of peer education is more effective on study group than on control group to increase knowledge, attitude, and practice of the students to prevent the spreading HIV/AIDS (p<0,05). Generally the students get the information about HIV/AIDS from newspaper/magazine and television. |
