| Abstract | This monograph examines two candidates that lead intense disputes in the first round of municipal elections in Porto Alegre in 2008: Maria do Rosário (PT) and Manuela D'Ávila (PCdoB). We found that both candidates tried to present themselves as agents of renewal in order to change the way of making politics in the city, and with that the main objectives of this work are in defining the main characteristics of the new speech, present in both campaigns, as well as to check if they were to be typically personalistic or if the party appeal was present in the campaigns. To achieve these objectives, we used the Theory of Discourse as the main theoretical framework, specifically the concept of Political Discourse. Another concept, the Audience Democracy, was used as a foundation to permeate the discussion between Personalism and party appeal. It was noticed that the renewal proposal was present in both campaigns , applied to both candidates as well as the parties, and that the presence of political parties in the campaigns is considered strong, with personalism traits also. |
