| Abstract | Gene Slsk, head yell leader, announced publicly this week the appointments of Butler Ferryman and Boots Witherspoon as assistant yell leaders. Perryman, Southwest Conference diving champion and a fine tumbler, will display his acrobatics with the aid of Sisk and Witherspoon. The three yell leaders have practiced this summer and are ready for the opener here on October 9 with the L. S. U. Tigers. For several years L. S. U. has used one featured tumbler among their yell leaders. For the first time Rice will match the Tigers In this department as well as in the football department with Perryman performing flip-flops, round-offs, and circus flips in a complicated routine developed this summer, Two new yells have also been added 1 to the repertoire. These yells will be published in The Thresher several times before the opening game of the season and all students should learn them, Sisk stated. Mimeographed sheets of the yells will be handed out at football games. The yell leaders also plan to renew a custom of several years back of hm ing frequent pop rallies shortly after one o'clock in the Physics Amphitheatre for the purpose of teaching the yells. The first majqp pep rally of the year will be October 8 at which time the annual Slime parade will be held. The Rice Y. W. C. A. held its initial meeting of the year at Autry House cn Monday afternoon immediately preceding the gulush dance which was held from one to three o'clock. Mary Virginia Hail, president, has announced ;a series of style shows sponsored by Peyton's to begin on Saturday, October 2. They are also to be hostesses to the other organized groups and clubs on the campus at a RoundUp to be given on Friday night, October 1. The location has not yet been decided. is in charge of the style show series. The following officers of the Wo-men's Council were elected Wednes-day at the meeting of the group held in the Physics Amphitheater: president , Nancy Nagel; vice-president, and freshman member Marjorie Boyd were elected Tuesday. The Women's Council is composed of one representative from the freshman class and two members from each of the other classes.
